FAIRFIELD, CT — A business professor has reached a settlement with Fairfield University and a student that she sued after he complained of an unfair grade, according to the Connecticut Post, which reported that Sharlene McEvoy also claimed school officials defamed her upon finding the student was correct.

In spring 2020, the student sent a final exam administered by mail June 8 to McEvoy, but it arrived four days past the June 12 deadline and McEvoy failed the student, the Post reported. The student complained to the chair of McEvoy's department, which McEvoy argued was a violation of university procedure, according to the Post. McEvoy eventually regraded the exam but the university found her grade of a C-minus to be prejudiced and changed it to "pass," the Post reported.

A judge dismissed the lawsuit Tuesday, on the grounds McEvoy should have made her grievance through university, according to the Post.
