"The South-Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA), a quasi-government agency serving the Greater New Haven Area that was created by the state legislature, has said it will be bidding to acquire Aquarion Water Company," wrote Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber in a recent community newsletter.
Aquarion could sell for more than $1.6 billion, but the acquisition could reduce what Fairfield and other communities used to receive from Aquarion in tax revenue.

Gerber said Fairfield receives about $1.8 million in tax revenue annually from Aquarion, and though the new entity would make payments in lieu of taxes, those payments could be less.
