Fairfield Residents Urged To Attend Upcoming Virtual CT Siting Council Meeting
Fairfield officials anticipate the council will discuss the United Illuminating monopole application.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield residents are being urged to attend the upcoming virtual meeting of the Connecticut Siting Council, during which Fairfield officials anticipate the council will discuss the United Illuminating monopole application.
The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, and will be streamed via Zoom. The Meeting ID is: 868 2595 8246, and the Passcode is: uH2Hne.
"We anticipate that in this meeting the Siting Council will conform its written opinion to the decision denying United Illuminating's application to build overhead transmission lines," Fairfield First Selectperson Christine Vitale wrote in a message to residents.

Last fall, the council denied UI's proposal to build tall monopoles, which would carry high voltage power lines, through sections of Fairfield and Bridgeport. Residents, business leaders and officials from both communities opposed the proposal.
For its part, UI has sought an explanation for the denial, which the utility company said lacks facts and "conclusions of law."

"The upcoming Zoom meeting is intended for the Siting Council to review and vote upon a new written opinion that conforms to the October decision denying UI's application," Vitale wrote. "It's important for our community to show up on the Zoom meeting and demonstrate our commitment to the denial of UI's application."
