Fairfield RTM To Vote On 2026-27 Town Budget

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Representative Town Meeting is scheduled to vote Monday on Fairfield's government and education spending plan for 2026-27 of $400,371,929, as recommended by the Board of Finance.

A few weeks ago, the Board of Finance approved its recommendation, $16,449,904 over the current allocation, or an increase of 4.28 percent.

Under the recommendation, town government spending would be $156,427,401, and education spending would be $243,944,528, if approved.

In February, First Selectperson Christine Vitale released her recommended budget, which was about $3 million higher than the Board of Finance's.

The town's mill rate, which is normally set by the Board of Finance a couple of days after the RTM vote, will not take place until sometime in June. This is due to the Board of Assessment Appeals receiving an extension to finish hearings and deliberations on the revaluation appeals, according to officials.

A date for that Board of Finance meeting has not yet been set.

Monday's RTM meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Education Center, 501 Kings Highway East in Fairfield. The meeting will also be available on Zoom and through FairTV on YouTube.
