Fairfield Runners Qualify for New England Championships

The boys' teams from Fairfield Prep and Fairfield Warde each placed in the top six at the State Open Friday to qualify.

The city of Fairfield will be well-represented at the New England Cross Country Championships next weekend, as the boys’ teams from Fairfield Prep and Fairfield Warde will compete based on their outstanding showing in Friday’s State Open at Wickham Park in Manchester.

Prep placed fifth with 188 points, with Warde right behind in sixth with 200 points. The top six teams and first 25 individuals at the State Open qualify for the New Englands, to be run Saturday, Nov. 14 at Thetford Academy, just outside of White River Junction, VT.

Two Jesuits won individual medals for placing in the top 25: sophomore Andrew Thompson (seventh) and senior Jack McGowen (25th).

Sophomore Alex Mocarski led Warde by placing 37th. Sophomore Danny Jagoe (54th) and senior Charles Kieffer (58th) also finished in the top 60 of the 188-runner field.
