To serve, a person must be a resident and registered voter.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield is looking for volunteers to fill vacancies on four government commissions and one board, according to officials.

To be considered, a person must be a Fairfield resident and a registered voter, with some positions requiring affiliation with a specific political party.

FairTV Commission – Vacancy for one resident from any political party to serve the remainder of the 7/2024-7/2027 term

  • The FairTV Commission oversees the development and operation of educational and government access television programming in Fairfield, including town and school meetings, educational events and various community happenings to help the public stay informed and engaged.

Flood Prevention, Climate Resilience and Erosion Control Board (FERB) – Vacancy for one resident from any political party to serve as an Alternate for the remainder of the 11/2025 - 11/2028 term

  • The FERB works to improve our Town’s resilience in the face of increasing weather events. In addition to offering education on how severe weather affects our neighbors, the FERB helps plan, construct, reconstruct and manage the Town's resilience measures to mitigate the effects of storms. FERB specifically works in conjunction with the Town’s Engineering, Conservation, Public Works and Capital Projects departments.

Historic District Commission (HDC) – Vacancy for one resident from any political party except Democrat to serve as an Alternate for the remainder of the 11/2023 - 11/2028 term

  • The HDC discusses and votes on alterations to properties that are within the Town's three historic districts - Greenfield Hill, Southport and the Old Post Road by downtown Fairfield. As HDC is a Certified Local Government (CLG), all members of the Commission shall possess a demonstrated special interest, specific knowledge or professional or academic training in such fields as history, architecture, architectural history, planning, prehistoric and historic archeology, cultural anthropology, curation, conservation, folklore, landscape architecture, historic preservation, urban design, or related disciplines. At least two professional members shall have specific knowledge and/or preservation-related experience.

Land Acquisition Commission (LAC) – Vacancy for one resident from any political party to serve as an Alternate for the remainder of the 11/2022 - 11/2026 term

  • The LAC is charged with investigating and identifying land in Fairfield that could be purchased by the Town for active and passive recreational/open space use.

Parks and Recreation Commission – Vacancy for two residents from any political party to serve the remainder of these terms: 11/2024-11/2029 and 11/2025-11/2030

  • The Parks and Recreation Commission consults with the Parks and Recreation Director and helps makes recommendations to Town bodies regarding policies for the planning, development and use of the Town's Parks and Recreation programs and facilities. Anyone who has an interest in community recreation, beaches, parks, sports, and/or programs is encouraged to apply.
