Fairfield Settles Lawsuit With Hurt Pickleball-Playing Judge: Report
Superior Court Judge William Wenzel claimed in a lawsuit that he suffered multiple injuries, including a broken neck, while playing.
FAIRFIELD, CT — A Connecticut Superior Court judge, who said he suffered a broken neck while playing pickleball in Fairfield, has settled a lawsuit with the town for an undisclosed amount in damages, reported the Connecticut Post.
In addition to the broken neck, Judge William Wenzel said in his lawsuit that he also broke ribs and injured his head, hand and knee after running into a concrete wall in January 2019 at the town's Bigelow Center for Senior Activities.
Wenzel was taking a pickleball lesson at the facility with Fairfield resident and instructor Elizabeth Hulme, 74. She was also named in the lawsuit, because Wenzel claimed she did not warn him about the wall and then allowed him to be moved after he suffered his injuries.
