Get in the holiday spirit with extended store hours downtown, complimentary seasonal refreshments, traveling carolers and more.

Via the Town of Fairfield: FAIRFIELD, CT — First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick is pleased to invite the public to participate in Fairfield’s 7th Annual Holiday Shop & Stroll from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in downtown Fairfield. The event is being co-sponsored by the Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

Participating shops in downtown Fairfield will offer extended hours and an assortment of complimentary seasonal refreshments to shoppers. Traveling carolers and musicians will fill the air with holiday cheer.

The town and chamber are again partnering with Fairfield Moms to make it a night out not to be missed. The evening will kick off with happy hour beginning at 5 p.m. at Malibu Taco, 1177 Post Road, which will include special discounts on food and drinks and free Shop Fairfield tote bags, while supplies last. Fairfield Moms will also be sponsoring a festive after-party beginning at 8 p.m. at The Chelsea, where there will be extended happy hour deals while shoppers enjoy music and fun. The Chelsea is located at 12 Unquowa Place.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to shop local and support Fairfield's businesses while getting some of your holiday shopping done,” Kupchick said.

This year’s event will again feature a 90-minute ice sculpting demonstration beginning at 6 p.m. at Sherman Green by world-renowned ice carver Bill Covitz of Ice Matters. Covitz will be exhibiting his considerable talents and skill carving a single block of ice into a holiday motif. Additional ice sculptures will be on display at several downtown locations, courtesy of Sturges Ridge of Fairfield, Kleban Properties, Henry C. Reid & Son Jewelers and Sacred Heart University.

For busy parents looking for an opportunity to take a break and do some holiday shopping without accompanying children, the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Birdcraft Museum, located at 314 Unquowa Road, is planning a “Drop & Shop” for children ages 4 to 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. Kids will have fun playing nature-related games, making indoor s’mores, getting creative with crafts and engaging in fascinating science experiments. This year’s Holiday Stroll will feature caroling by the Fairfield Ludlowe choir/a cappella group Close Harmony and the Fairfield University choir/a cappella group Sweet Harmony, as well as performances by the Fairfield Ludlowe Brass Ensemble and Fairfield Prep’s Jazzuits, which will be performing at Starbucks inside the Fairfield University Book Store on the Post Road.

At the Community Theater, Sacred Heart University will be putting on a show to preview the
re-opening of the much-beloved, iconic landmark, featuring choral groups, a brass band, hot cocoa and fresh-baked cookies while film clips play on a large outdoor screen. Passersby may also meet the new theater director and find out more about what’s being planned when the theater opens in celebration of its 100th anniversary in 2020.

Cross Country Mortgage, located at 46 Miller St., will also be open to those seeking warmth, holiday cheer and restroom facilities, as well as a chance to win great raffle prizes.
