Fairfield Softball Wins MAAC, Heads to Tuscaloosa for NCAA Opening Round
Fairfield softball faces the Alabama Crimson Tide in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Buoyed by six .300-plus hitters – including the blistering .406 registered by the white-hot outfielder Lauren Filicia (San Diego, CA) – the Fairfield University Softball team captured the first MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) in school history, and now heads to Tuscaloosa to square off against the Crimson Tide of Alabama in the opening round of the N.C.A.A. regionals on Friday (May 15th) at 4:00 PM. The game will be televised on the SEC Network. South Carolina-Upstate plays Washington at 1:30 ET in the opening game.
Tori Reed (.368, Dover, DE), Sammy Ruffolo (.331, Deerfield Beach, FL), Sam Frungillo (.329, Mountanside, NJ), Kate Robinson (.321, Upper Darby, PA) and Makenna DiGuilio (.308, Warwick, NY) round out the Stags’ .300 hitter brigade.
Fairfield captured the MAAC title on the strength of a double-header sweep of conference foe Monmouth on Saturday. Filicia was named the tournament most valuable player and joined Ruffolo, infielder Nicole Capra, and pitchers Destinee Pallotto and Lauren Falkanger on the All-Tournament team.
