Fairfield To Vote In Special Election For First Selectperson

On the ballot: incumbent First Selectperson Christine Vitale; state Sen. Tony Hwang; and petitioning candidate Matthew Hallock.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The next leader of Fairfield will be decided on Tuesday.

In a Special Election established last year, following the untimely passing of First Selectman Bill Gerber, the town will vote for the next First Selectperson from three candidates, incumbent First Selectperson Christine Vitale, a Democrat; five-term state Sen. Tony Hwang, a Republican; and petitioning candidate Matthew A. Hallock, an independent.

A sample ballot can be viewed here; Hallock's petition was certified by the Secretary of State's Office in December.

Gerber passed away in July, and soon after, local Republicans mounted a successful petition drive to force the Special Election. Vitale, a former Board of Education Chair who was Gerber's running mate, was named First Selectperson in August.
