Fairfield Warde Baseball, Girls' Lacrosse Teams Advance to State Title Games

The baseball team cruised to victory in its semifinal showdown, while the lacrosse team won a thrilling nail-biter.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Tuesday was an immensely successful day for Fairfield Warde athletics with the school’s baseball and girls’ lacrosse teams advancing to state championship games with semifinal victories.

The baseball team cruised into the Class LL final with an 8-0 semifinal victory over Simsbury Tuesday afternoon at Muzzy Field in Bristol.

The senior-laden Mustangs (19-7) were led by a complete-game shutout from senior John Natoli, who allowed only four hits and finished with eight strikeouts.

Meanwhile, the Warde girls’ lacrosse team was led by junior Courtney Scheetz’s four goals and three goals from sophomore Libby McKenna to claim a thrilling 11-10 victory over Greenwich, according to the Connecticut Post.

The sixth-seeded Mustangs (14-4-1) will take on top-seeded Darien (17-1-1) in the Class L girls’ lacrosse championship game on Saturday, June 11 at Jonathan Law in Milford. The start time for the game is still to be determined.

The baseball team, the tournament’s 10th seed, will be seeking its second class LL crown (Warde won the state title in 1981), according to the Post.

The Mustangs will face top-seeded Amity (23-1), which defeated New Milford, 3-1, in the other semifinal game at Muzzy Field, in the title game.

The championship game will be played on either Friday, June 10 or Saturday, June 11 at Palmer Field in Middletown.
