Fairfield Wins Girls 11-12 District Two Softball Title
Advances to sectionals after a 3-2, seven-inning win over Black Rock on Sunday
The Fairfield girls Little League softball 11/12-year-old All-Stars won the District Two with a 3-2, seven-inning victory over Black Rock on Sunday.
Sam Platz pitched a no-hitter in the title game for Fairfield, which went undefeated in the tournament (5-0), allowing only six runs in the five games.
Fairfield opens play in the Connecticut section I tournament on Wednesday, when it takes on district five champion Berlin at 5:45 p.m. at Darien's Buck Rodgers Field.

The All-Stars began pool play with a 6-1 defeat of Trumbull. Effective bunting and base stealing, along with a grand slam, secured the victory. Platz was the winning pitcher in the tournament opener.
In the second game, Fairfield erupted offensively, routing Westport, 16-0, to back the shutout pitching of Kelly Caione.

Fairfield completed pool play with a hard-fought 5-2 victory over Black Rock.
The local used the combination of stellar defense and smart base running, along with another solid outing by Platz on the mound, to advance to the semifinals.
Platz and Caione combined to lead Fairfield to a 6-1 victory over Westport, setting up another meeting with Black Rock.
In the championship game, Fairfield had to rally late, as it fell behind, 2-0 in the first inning, due to some early jitters.
After being blanked through four innings, Fairfield tied the contest in the fifth. Two hits, along with a throwing error, pushed across the winning run in the seventh.
Fairfield also won the under-10 girls softball district two crown.
