Fairfield's 2 High Schools Ranked Among Top 25 In CT: U.S. News

Five of the top 10 public high schools in the state are in Fairfield County.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde high schools are among the state's 25 best public high schools, according to a new ranking of the 100 top high schools in Connecticut by U.S. News & World Report.

Nationally, Ludlowe is the 966th best high school, while Warde is ranked 1,200th. The schools are judged on factors such as academic performance, graduation rates and college readiness.

In Connecticut, the top high school is Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern in Groton, but five of the top 10 high schools in the state are in Fairfield County. After Westport's Staples High School, which is second to Marine Science, the other Fairfield County schools in the top 10 in Connecticut are Darien, Weston, New Canaan and Greenwich.

Marine Science is ranked 211th nationally, and Staples is ranked 240th. The top high school in the U.S. is The Early College at Guilford in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Schools opened in Fairfield on Tuesday. Generally, the highest-ranked schools had students who performed well on state assessment for math, reading and science, according to the report.
