The fire was reported just before 1:30 p.m. at Kingsway Motors, and as fire personnel arrived, they encountered "heavy smoke and fire" coming from the one-story building.
Multiple engines were needed to battle the blaze, according to Fairfield Lt. Robert F. Smith Jr.

"Units battled a stubborn interior fire involving multiple automobiles under repair in the occupied repair shop," Smith wrote in a statement. "The fire quickly extended to a second-floor storage area and into the roof area. Crews cut a vent hole in the roof to gain better access as the fire continued to grow. Crews were removed from the roof and interior of the structure to a defensive posture due to concerns for a potential roof failure and collapse."
The fire was brought under control about two hours after firefighters arrived at the scene.
Members of the Fairfield Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the cause of the fire.
