Downtown Fairfield Apartment Fire Caused By Tupperware On Stove
A stove should never be used for any kind of storage, Fairfield Fire Department Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Firefighters extinguished a blaze Thursday in a downtown Fairfield apartment after a stove was left on with a storage container on top of it, according to a fire official.
An alarm went off just before 10:30 a.m. at the Bishop Curtis Homes on Post Road near Ruane Street, with firefighters arriving five minutes later, according to Fairfield Fire Department Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir.
Emergency crews found smoke on the second floor of the building and discovered it was coming from an empty unit, where a large Tupperware bin had been placed on a stovetop with the stove turned on, melting the plastic container, Kalapir said.

The fire was quickly extinguished, according to Kalapir. No one was injured and fire damage was contained to the Tupperware and the stove, but there was smoke damage throughout the second floor, Kalapir said, adding a stove should never be used for any kind of storage.
"We do typically find people that store items on top of stovetops," he said, emphasizing using stoves for storage is not advisable.
