Firefighters Rescue Boat Near Sasco Point In Fairfield

A man in an open wooden boat lost his rudder and was in distress off Fairfield Beach by Sasco Point.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield firefighters came to the aid of a rudderless boat Friday.

A caller reported about 10:15 a.m. that he was in an open wooden boat, had lost his rudder and was in distress off Fairfield Beach by Sasco Point, the fire department said in a Facebook post.

The department's fire boat approached the rudderless vessel, and firefighters removed the occupant and brought the wooden boat to Southport Harbor. Pequot Yacht Club staff assisted with the rescue.
