"We had incredible support from the town all game-long that really pulled us through," Daley said. "It means everything for us and the team, all the families, the extended families and a whole host of town people that came to support us. It just feels wonderful."

Nick Nardone recorded the win Friday, allowing one unearned run over 5 2/3 innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Fairfield American continued its remarkable penchant for winning close games. Its five wins in  the regionals were by a combined eight runs, and that trend continued Friday.

The team will be back in action on Sunday night in the winners' bracket of pool B.
