Fundraising Underway To Help Injured Uber Driver In Fairfield Crash

Otto Bailon is one of six people who were seriously injured in the Sept. 29 crash near the Sacred Heart University campus.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help with the expenses of Otto Bailon, the Uber driver seriously injured in the Sept. 29 crash near the Sacred Heart University campus.

Six people were injured in the two-car crash, and similar GoFundMe efforts were launched following the crash for two of the other victims in the crash, SHU students Liv Graham and Tyler Delk.

Bailon's GoFundMe page was launched by his daughter, Stefany.

"[My father] is in surgical ICU with severe injuries to his stomach, lungs and lower back," Stefany Bailon wrote. "He will require multiple surgeries, intensive care and lots of physical therapy outside of the hospital."

As of Friday, Bailon's page had generated more than $34,000 toward a goal of $65,000.

"My family and I are thankful for any and all contributions to help with the costs of hospital stay, surgeries and his recovery," Stefany wrote.

The crash remains under investigation, and as of Wednesday, in addition to Bailon, Delk, Graham and fellow student Olivia Marini remained hospitalized, the Connecticut Post reported.

Two other students in the crash, Cayna Mangine and Amanda Hanlon, have been released from the hospital.

Bailon was driving a Toyota Corolla with Graham, Marini, Mangine and Hanlon inside, when it collided with an Audi driven by Delk on Jefferson Street near the university's Martire Family Arena.
