Garbage Truck Fire Doused By Fairfield Firefighters
The early morning blaze occurred Thursday on Kings Highway East in Fairfield.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield firefighters extinguished a garbage truck fire early Thursday on Kings Highway East, according to fire officials.
No injuries were reported in the 4 a.m. blaze, which was in the 500 block of Kings Highway East.
While making stops Thursday, the garbage truck driver noticed that there was a fire in the rear garbage compactor, "and he quickly and safely unloaded the trash in an open parking lot away from any exposures and awaited the arrival of fire units."

Firefighters were able to douse the flames quickly, and cleanup of the garbage was done by the trash company and was expected to be completed Thursday morning.
"The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time," officials said.
