Goldstein Vs. Miressi In 4th Congressional District Republican Primary: What To Know

On Aug. 11, registered Republicans in Connecticut's 4th Congressional District will cast their votes in a primary for a candidate to take on incumbent Democrat Jim Himes. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Republican primary.

Running for the Republican nomination are Dr. Michael Goldstein, a physician and attorney, who lost to Himes in 2024, and Daniel Miressi, a former professional hockey player and current youth hockey coach, who ran unsuccessfully against state Sen. Bob Duff in 2022.

Goldstein is the party-endorsed candidate, while Miressi is a petitioning candidate.

The 4th Congressional District represents southwestern Fairfield County, and includes all or parts of the following communities (alphabetically):

• Bridgeport
• Darien
• Easton
• Fairfield
• Greenwich
• Monroe
• New Canaan
• Norwalk
• Oxford (portion)
• Redding
• Ridgefield
• Shelton (portion)
• Stamford
• Trumbull
• Weston
• Westport
• Wilton

Polls in the district and throughout Connecticut will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Primary Day. Use the Secretary of State’s website to find your polling place. Voters who are in line by 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote in Connecticut primaries, and only for the primaries in their respective parties.

Same day registration is not available. Registered unaffiliated voters can register for a party in order to vote in the primary up until noon on Aug. 10.

Early voting begins on Aug. 3, and ends on Aug. 9. Polling sites for early voting are typically different from regular polling sites; information on early voting can be found here.
