Grandfather, 85, Scammed Out Of $1,800: Fairfield Police

Police are investigating the phone scam incident.

FAIRFIELD, CT — An 85-year-old Fairfield man was scammed out of nearly $1,800 by a man who posed as his grandson in a phone scam, according to multiple reports.

FOX 61 reports the victim notified Fairfield Police on March 17 that he was scammed, after he had wired a total of $1,795 to a man in New Jersey who said he was his grandson and was in jail for manslaughter.

The victim told police that he had poor hearing and thought the man sounded like his grandson, according to the Fairfield Daily Voice.
