Letter: Republicans Refuse To Carry Out the Will of the People

Fairfield DTC Chairman Steven Sheinberg writes that residents are fed up with politicians who place politics above people.

Fairfield residents are fed up with politicians who place politics above people. The people of Fairfield demanded a special election so that we can choose who finishes the remaining 3 years on the Board of Selectmen. However, Mr. Bateson and Mr. Tymniak, the two Republicans on the Board of Selectman, chose to reject the will of the people, ignore the law, abuse their power, and violate ethics rules.

Mr. Bateson and Mr. Tymniak should be ashamed for taking action that was so highly partisan. It appears they care nothing for the town and only care about holding on to their power. Are they so afraid they would lose the election that they do not want to let the people choose for themselves?

Their actions threaten to undermine democracy. Fairfield residents must stand up to this abuse of power and demand that the special election take place as scheduled by the Republican Town Clerk on June 6, 2017. Write to Tymniak and Bateson at bos@fairfieldct.org. Tell them we want to choose who represents us.
