Ludlowe Boys Basketball Keeps Alive FCIAC Playoff Hopes

Kevin Bentivegna scores 26 points as the Falcons hold off Trinity Catholic, 62-57

Kevin Bentivegna scored 26 points, leading the Fairfield Ludlowe boys basketball team to a 62-57 victory over Trinity Catholic on Friday night in Stamford.

Bentivegna drilled five 3-pointers as the Falcons (9-5, 9-7) kept alive their FCIAC playoff hopes. Erik Krumins added 10 points and David Kinsley chipped in with nine.

Ludlowe began the night tied for ninth with Trinity Catholic in the tightly bunched playoff race. The top eight get in, and it would be an impressive accomplishment for the Falcons after winning only four games last season.

Ludlowe took a 35-26 lead at the half before a 11-0 run gave the Crusaders (8-6, 9-7) a 44-43 lead on a layup by Brandon Wheeler with under two minutes left in the third quarter.

Ludlowe then took a 48-46 lead into the final period on Patrick Gutierrez's layup at the buzzer.

After the Crusaders scored the first basket of the final period, Ludlowe put away the contest with a 7-0 run, taking a 55-48 lead on Justin Berardino's 3-pointer.

Schadrac Casimir scored 17 of his 18 points after the intermission to lead the Crusaders.

Casimir's 3-pointer pulled Trinity Catholic within 58-57 in the final minute but the Falcons iced the game from the line, hitting four free throws in the final 20 seconds.
