Ludlowe Girls Finish 18th In Class LL Indoor Track Championship

Sydney Kay and Katie Coyle qualify for the state Open meet

The Fairfield Ludlowe girls indoor track team competed on Saturday night in the Class LL championship meet and finished 18th out of 31 schools on the strength of two excellent performances.

Junior Sydney Kay tied for fifth place in the 55 meter dash (7.49) while sophomore Katie Coyle improved her previous best in the long jump by over a foot to place fourth 15-10.25) .

Both of them will represent Ludlowe in the state Open meet on Saturday at the New Haven Athletic Center.

The state Open meet includes only the top 18 competitors in each event from all 160-plus CIAC schools. The top six in each event at the state Open advance to the New England championship meet on March 4.

-- Warde boys: Harry Warnick in the 1,600 and 3,200.

-- Warde girls: Allyson Leppla in the shotput,  Kate Allen in the 1,600; and  Sarah Collins, Victoria Edison, Mackenzie Dancho, and Kate Allen in the sprint medley relay.

-- Ludlowe boys:  Andrew Fernandes, Michael Thottam, Michael Frasco, and Jack White in the 4x800 relay;  and Tyler Schwarz in the 55 meter dash and the 300 meter dash.
