BRIDGEPORT, CT — A former FedEx driver accused of raping a Sacred Heart University student at her off-campus home in Bridgeport faces new charges in connection with an incident in which a woman was held at gunpoint in front of her children, according to the Connecticut Post.

Tyrek Herbert knocked on the student’s door in August 2021 and claimed to be raising money for charity, before showing a gun, forcing his way into her home and raping her, the Post reported, adding Herbert was arrested shortly thereafter near Veterans Memorial Park. He is charged with home invasion with a dangerous weapon, first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint and illegal use of a facsimile firearm in the rape case, according to court records, which indicate Herbert remains in custody on a $2 million bond.

Herbert was arraigned Tuesday on the new charges, connected to allegations that after meeting a woman in July 2021 in her Bridgeport neighborhood, he went to her door with a gun, forced his way inside while her children were home, and eventually left, saying he “got the wrong person,” according to the Post. He was arrested Tuesday and is charged with home invasion, first-degree threatening, first-degree unlawful restraint and risk of injury to a child, court records said, and his bond in the new case is $500,000.
