FAIRFIELD, CT — A man is charged after brandishing a gun at a driver and passenger during a road rage incident outside a Fairfield grocery store, according to police.

Barrett W. Bollinger, 33, is charged with first-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace, police said.

The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday near Whole Foods, 350 Grasmere Ave., according to police. A driver with a passenger was exiting the store's parking lot when a white Chevrolet pickup truck passed them on the left, pulled in front of them and slammed on the brakes, according to police. The driver tried to avoid a collision and moved to the left lane, police said, adding that both the driver and passenger saw the man in the pickup holding a handgun outside the truck’s window.

Based on information provided about the pickup, its driver and the truck’s direction of travel, law enforcement found the pickup and its owner at an address on Roanoke Avenue, according to police. Bollinger admitted to being involved in a road rage incident and said he was cut off in traffic, but refused to speak further, police said.

Bollinger was taken into custody, released on $5,000 bond and is set to appear in court Monday, according to police, who said his pistol permit was also seized.
