FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport man is accused of robbing a gas station at gunpoint earlier this week in downtown Fairfield, according to police.

Torik Baldwin, 45, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree larceny, police said.

The incident occurred about 7:40 p.m. Monday at Shell, 1139 Post Road, according to police. The robber, who wore clear gloves, a black face covering and black clothing, entered the store and wandered around briefly before bringing a pack of Mentos to the counter, police said. The man then removed a pistol — later determined to be a Glock 19 replica BB gun — from his backpack, and held the weapon to the clerk’s arm while the employee took out the cash register drawers, according to police. The robber grabbed cash from the drawers until a customer walked in, and then fled west on the Post Road, police said.

K-9s found clear latex gloves in the gas station parking lot that were believed to have been worn by the robber, according to police, who reviewed surveillance from surrounding businesses to identify Baldwin as a suspect. Following a surveillance operation, authorities arrested Baldwin at his home on East Main Street, police said, adding the gun thought to have been used in the robbery was seized and cash believed to be from the crime was found, as were clothes thought to have been those Baldwin wore during the incident.

Baldwin is set appear in court Jan. 12, according to police, who said he was released after posting a $100,000 bond through a bondsman.
