FAIRFIELD, CT — A Westport man is accused of stealing nearly $400 during an armed robbery of a Subway sandwich shop in Fairfield earlier this month. Police say the suspect in the robbery, later identified as Walter Reed, also stole about $20 from the tip jar at another Subway earlier in the same day.

The Subway, located at 709 Post Road in Fairfield, was robbed May 2 by a man who asked the cashier to make change for a dollar bill. When the cashier opened the drawer, the man brandished a gun and took about $390 from the register, according to Lt. John Bucherati. The suspect then fled the area.

“It was determined that the same male had been in the Subway Shop located at 1996 Post Road a short time earlier on that same day,” Bucherati wrote in a press release. “At that time, this male took money from the tip jar after asking the cashier to make change for a dollar bill. The cashier never opened the jar. Approximately $20 was taken from the tip jar.”
