Man Hits Bridgeport Cop With Car, Crashes In Fairfield: Police

The officer suffered injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A New York man is accused of seriously injuring an officer in Bridgeport before fleeing police and crashing the car he was driving in Fairfield, according to law enforcement.

Kyle A. Hunt, 24, is charged with striking an officer with a vehicle, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility for physical injury, evading responsibility for property damage, disobeying a police signal, reckless driving and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, police said.

Leading up to the crash, officers were called Saturday just before midnight to a possible street fight on Hollister Avenue and found more than 100 patrons exiting a club, according to Bridgeport police. An officer was directing traffic when a Honda Accord sped up and hit the officer’s vehicle, pinning her and causing injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, police said.

The driver then fled south on Interstate 95, with officers in pursuit, according to police. Fairfield police and Connecticut State Police assisted Bridgeport police in searching for the car. Law enforcement came upon the scene of a crash south of Exit 24 in Fairfield, police said. The Honda had struck both a median concrete barrier and a metal beam guardrail, according to state police.

Hunt, of Rosendale, New York, exited the car, uninjured, and was searched and arrested, police said. Hunt was carrying a handgun magazine and bullets on his person, according to police.
