Man Sentenced For Raping, Robbing Woman In Fairfield
The man pleaded guilty to charges that he raped and robbed a woman near the Fairfield train station.
FAIRFIELD, CT — A New Haven man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping and robbing a woman near the Fairfield train station in 2016, according to the Fairfield Citizen. Michael Fontaine, who was 48 at the time of his arrest in December of 2016, was also sentenced to 10 years of special parole following the prison term, the Citizen reports.
Fontaine pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault and first-degree robbery as the case was heading to trial. Fontaine has an extensive criminal history and had been released from the Osborn Correctional Institute in Somers just 11 days before the attack in Fairfield on Dec. 17, 2016, the Connecticut Post previously reported.
Fairfield Police responded to the area of 600 Reef Road at about 10:20 p.m. on Dec. 17 on the report of a victim who said she had just been sexually assaulted and robbed at knifepoint. The victim told police that she was walking on Reef Road from the train station when she heard heavy footsteps approaching from behind, right before she was attacked, police said at the time of the arrest.

Police followed a trail of blood and shoe prints in the snow to find Fontaine hiding in the bushes on Old Post Road near Beach Road. The victim was able to injure Fontaine during the attack, leading to the trail of fresh blood droppings. The victim identified Fontaine as the man who attacked her, according to police.
