FAIRFIELD, CT — A man accused of sexually assaulting two girls for years was arrested this week by Fairfield police. Rui Carvalho is charged with 15 counts of first degree sexual assault, five counts of second degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a child and two counts of voyeurism, according to a police department news release.

Fairfield detectives first learned in June that the minors were being assaulted, although the abuse had been happening for several years, police stated. A warrant was issued Monday for Carvalho, who turned himself in Tuesday, according to police. Carvalho, 49, of Stamford, is not an American citizen, but a citizen of Canada, and is in the U.S. on a visa, police stated. Carvalho was released on $750,000 bond.
