Man Stole Beer And Hotdogs From Fairfield Home: Police

FAIRFIELD, CT — A man recently burglarized the home of a stranger, taking only beer and hotdogs, Fairfield police said.

Christopher F. Leffert, 38, of Brooklyn, New York, was arrested Oct. 5 and charged with burglary and larceny after he stole the items and fled, according to a police report.

The burglary occurred at a house in the 300 block of Sasco Hill Road. A housekeeper encountered Leffert in the refrigerator and told her employer, who saw Leffert sitting in a gray Nissan Rogue outside the home, the report said. A second man approached the resident, who asked for the beer and food back and told the man to leave, but the man said he didn't know what the resident was talking about and drove away, according to the report.

The resident called police, who found the SUV on Oldfield Road. When officers approached the vehicle, Leffert rolled the window down, put his hands up and said, "Is this about the beer? I'll return it," the report said.

Police found a 12-pack of Stella Artois beer, three unopened Sip of Sunshine IPA beer cans and a box of Hebrew National Beef Franks in the SUV, according to the report. The resident, who told police he was not acquainted with either of the men, identified both the passenger and the driver as the people who were at his house, the report said.

The second man, who was driving the vehicle, was identified as Ryan Hughes, 36, of Norwalk, and was cited for trespassing, the report said.

In addition to the burglary and larceny charges, Leffert was also issued an infraction for possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, according to the report. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 17 for the charges related to the theft and must answer to the marijuana infraction by Oct 18, the report said.
