The following announcement is from the Fairfield Harbor Management Commission:

FAIRFIELD, CT — Experienced boaters know they need to carry flares and aerial flare ejection guns on board their vessels, but being that flares are only used in emergencies, how many people know how to use them safely and properly?

That question and others will be answered at Marine Flare Day 2023 set for Saturday, June 3, at the Lower Wharf in Southport at the end of Harbor Road, according to Bryan LeClerc, Harbor Master for Fairfield and Southport.

Organizers rescheduled the event to June 3, due to expected inclement weather on the original date, May 20.

The free event is set to run from 10 am to noon and is open to the public. Boaters are encouraged to bring any expired flares they may have for safe disposal and to practice using both hand-held and aerial flares.
