FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Police continue to investigate an apparent attempted robbery of People’s Bank in Southport Wednesday when the would-be robber fled after realizing the bank was closed.

An employee of People’s Bank, located at 411 Old Post Road, reported to police at about 4:10 p.m. on Feb. 22 that a man came to the door wearing a mask and carrying a duffel bag. He attempted to open the bank door, which was locked, before being noticed by employees inside and then left the scene, according to police.

The man, who was wearing a “motorcycle-type face mask with gloves,” fled the scene southbound in a green 1996 Honda Accord, four-door, which was recently purchased from a man in Stratford, according to police.
