Masks Will Be Required At Fairfield's Bigelow Senior Center
Fairfield's senior center announced Wednesday it would be requiring masks at the facility.

FAIRFIELD, CT — As the omicron variant of the coronavirus continues to spread through Connecticut, Fairfield's senior center announced Wednesday it would be requiring masks at the facility.
"As of today, Dec. 22, 2021, masks are required to be worn while at the Bigelow Center," Director Brenda Steele said in an email.
The fast-spreading omicron variant accounted for 73 percent of COVID-19 infections last week in the U.S. In Connecticut, the Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 37,678 COVID-19 tests were processed in the past 24 hours, and of those, 3,366 were positive, for a daily positivity rate of 8.93 percent. Just under 82 percent of Connecticut's population has been fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.

The town of Fairfield was last under a mask mandate for about six weeks from mid-August to October due to the surge of cases that accompanied the rise of the delta variant. There has been no news of such a requirement being restored in Fairfield due to omicron.
