Power Returning After Over 2,000 Lost Service In Fairfield

Fairfield police warned residents that the weather was causing trees and wires to fall.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Power was in the process of being restored Monday night in Fairfield after thousands lost electricity earlier in the evening.

As of about 7:15 p.m., more than 2,000 customers in town were without power, according to UI's outage map, but by 10:45 p.m., that number had dropped to 740. The majority of remaining outages were expected to be fixed by midnight.

"DPW, UI and emergency personnel are out in force in the aftermath of the storm," Fairfield police stated in a Facebook post at about 7:30 p.m. "Although the weather has cleared, hazards are still present. Please stay away from downed trees and power lines."

Strong thunderstorms moved into the area beginning after 4:30 p.m. Police warned residents on social media that the weather was causing trees and wires to fall, and non-emergency and 911 lines were overwhelmed.
