Neighbor Helps Police Catch Car Thieves In Fairfield: Police
An alert resident reported that a car was being stolen out of her neighbor's driveway and two teens were arrested after crashing in the car.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two Bridgeport teens were arrested after police say they stole a car out of a driveway in Fairfield and eventually crashed into a utility pole while trying to elude officers during the overnight hours on Tuesday. The teens, both 17 years old, were hospitalized after the crash for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Robert Kalamaras.
At about 3 a.m. on May 1, a Mill Plain Road resident called police to report several suspicious males in dark clothing walking up and down her neighbor’s driveway attempting to enter their cars. The resident was able to provide real-time observations to the officers responding that her neighbor’s vehicle was now backing out of the driveway and she believed it was being stolen, according to Kalamaras.
“Officers quickly located the vehicle near Mill Plain Road and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop,” Kalamaras wrote in a press release. “The suspects engaged officers in pursuit for a short time before officers were successfully able to deploy spike-strips in attempt to stop the pursuit. The vehicle continued southbound on Tunxis Hill Road before failing to negotiate a curve at the intersection of Kings Highway East and striking a utility pole. The operator fled on foot and was taken into custody near the collision scene. The passenger remained in the vehicle and was extricated by Fairfield Fire Department.”
