New Canaan Wine Merchants Donates to Saint Catherine Center
Proceeds from the store's "Decembourbon" event went to benefit the center for students and young adults with special needs.

FAIRFIELD, NEW CANAAN – In the fall of each year, New Canaan Wine Merchants hosts “Decembourbon,” where patrons bid on a collection of unique bourbons each time they come into the store. When bidding closes in late December, bidding proceeds are donated to a designated charity. Saint Catherine Center for Special Needs in Fairfield is pleased to be this year’s recipient of the fun event.
Elena Schlegel, a store patron and New Canaan resident, suggested that the funds be given to the Center, where she is a volunteer. Owner Rob Hall was pleased to respond, and recently presented a check for $1,200 to Helen Burland, the Center’s Executive Director. To honor the memory of Schlegel’s daughter Katherine, the funds will be designated to the Katherine Schlegel Fund to support the Center’s Capital Campaign.
“We are so grateful for the continued support we receive from the New Canaan community,” said Burland. “Programs like ours need strong partners so we can continue to deliver on our mission to serve children and young adults with special needs. Thank you, Rob and New Canaan Wine Merchants!”
