Newly Created Fairfield Arts Commission Seeks Members
The Fairfield Arts Commission was created by the Representative Town Meeting.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The newly created Fairfield Arts Commission, which was recently adopted by the Representative Town Meeting, is seeking its first members, according to officials.
"The purpose of the Fairfield Arts Commission shall be to stimulate, foster, facilitate and encourage the development and appreciation of artistic and cultural activities within the Town of Fairfield, including exploring the possibility of designating a 'culture district' within our community," wrote First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick in her latest Town Update.
A total of nine members, who will be appointed by the Board of Selectpersons, will serve on the commission, with no more than five being registered with the same political party.

The first appointed members will serve staggered terms:
- Three shall serve for one year
- Three shall serve for two years
- Three shall serve for three years
"Thereafter, each succeeding member shall be appointed for a term of three years," officials said.

Additionally, the town seeks at least one representative from each of the following groups:
- Local cultural council/arts council
- Cultural organizations (historical society, museum, ethnic heritage organization)
- At least one artist that lives and/or works in the district
- Organizations that represent artists (artist cooperative, etc.), if applicable
- For-profit creative business i.e., gallery, theater
- Local business and/or Chamber of Commerce
Qualified residents who are interested in serving on the commission are asked to fill out this form.
