No Search for Fairfield's Max Maisel on Sunday; Father Tweets Update

Maisel, 21, has been missing since Feb. 22 and crews have been searching the area of the Charlotte pier where he was last seen.

There was no search for missing Fairfield native Max Maisel on Sunday and while the family isn’t giving up hope of finding him, his father tweeted Sunday night that “logic indicates that it will not end well.”

Crews have been searching the area of the Charlotte pier at Lake Ontario where Max Maisel’s car was found last Monday, but Rochester police announced earlier on Sunday that there would be no search and didn’t say when the search will continue, according to the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper.

Max Maisel, 21, was last seen the night of Sunday, Feb. 22, after leaving the Perkins Green apartment complex at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. He is a third-year professional photographic illustration student at RIT.

“We want to thank the Rochester Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies for their heroic work in severe conditions. While they have urged us not to leap to any conclusions about Max’s fate, logic indicates that it will not end well. We continue to be buoyed by the love and support of friends and family from across the country.”

Murray told a Democrat and Chronicle reporter on Thursday that “ We’re praying very, very hard. This is the worst thing. We miss him and we can’t wait to see him.”

The Rochester Police Department has been working on piecing together clues, according to the family, and Ivan Maisel told the Democrat and Chronicle on Thursday that a passerby saw Max on the Charlotte pier around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, when it was windy and snowy, but added that he was dressed for the weather.

Anyone with any information on Max Maisel’s whereabouts is asked to contact Rochester Police Department Investigator Kevin Wehbring at 585-428-6293.
