Obituary: Alan Michael (Mike) DeMar, 78, Of Fairfield

The following obituary of Fairfield resident Alan Michael (Mike) DeMar, 78, is from Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home:

Alan Michael (Mike) DeMar, 78 of Fairfield, the beloved husband of JoAnn Sterling, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 in the presence of his family. He was born in Yonkers, NY to the late Joseph and Gertrude (Schirner) DeMar. Mike was raised in Somers, NY where he lived for over 55 years before moving to Fairfield.

Mike joined the Air Force immediately after high school and served for four years. He then had a long career in banking, working for Wachovia and it’s legacies, where he specialized in credit. Mike was an avid golfer, happily playing five days a week after retirement. He also enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to explore many parts of the world. Additionally, Mike loved gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his daughter, Sharon Ward and her husband Tim, and his son, Shawn DeMar and his wife Ellen. He will also be missed by his step-daughters, Lee Sterling and her husband Jay Soltis, Shannon Dery and her husband Jarett; as well as four grandchildren, Madison DeMar, Gavin Dery, Tyler Dery and Jack Soltis. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Charles Benson, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Mike was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia DeMar, his brother, Charles DeMar and his sister, Marilyn Benson.
