Obituary: Albert C. Verrillo ‘Papa’, 89, of Fairfield
He belonged to the Southport Fire Department as a volunteer member since he was 17 years old.

Albert C. Verrillo “Papa”, 89, a longtime Fairfield resident, beloved husband of the late Patricia Ciacia Verrillo of 54 years, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 20, 2018. Born in Southport, CT, Albert had been a Fairfield resident for most of his long life. He belonged to the Southport CT Fire Department as a volunteer member since he was 17 years old. He was also a very proud Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, from 1950-1952.
Following his service, Albert played softball with four different teams in Southport, where he met his wife of 54 years. He was employed as a Journeyman printer for 45 years. He enjoyed travelling, golfing, and gardening. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who found extreme happiness in spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors in addition to his daughter Jill Cherry, include two beloved grandchildren, who knew him as “Papa”, Jessica N. Cherry and Justin A. Cherry of Newtown, CT; his daughter-in-law, Heidi Bender of Fairfield, CT; and longtime close friend Richard G. Hyder, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Stellato Verrillo; his father, Anthony Verrillo; two brothers, John and Frank Verrillo; his wife, Patricia Ciacia Verrillo; son, Bruce D. Verrillo and a son-in-law, Thomas A. Cherry.
A service to celebrate Albert’s life will be held Thursday, April 26 at Spear Miller Funeral home. 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Albert.
