Obituary: Barbara Jean (Gillen) Bilotta, 73

Our wonderful mother, Barbara Jean (Gillen) Bilotta, 73, formerly of Westport, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023. She was a wonderful mother, spouse, sister, friend, and Nonna. Barbara had a lifelong passion for education, pouring her energy into teaching elementary school children for over thirty years, spending many years at Fairfield Country Day School, in Fairfield, Connecticut. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, she was a basketball star at Maria Goretti High School, and later earned a teaching degree from West Chester University.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Margaret (Zoida) Gillen, and her devoted husband of 46 years, Joseph. She left behind her two sons, Gregory (Robyn) of Fairfield, Connecticut, and Nicholas (Sarah) of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and five grandchildren; Cole (20), Jack (17), Sophia (17), Max (15), and Samuel (14). Barbara lived a vibrant and active life, spending summers with her family in Avalon, New Jersey, and for many years wintering in Naples, Florida.

Calling hours are 9:30am-10:30am in Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield, CT, followed by a funeral mass at 11am at St. Pius X Parish, 834 Brookside Drive, in Fairfield, CT.
