Obituary: Dolores E. Benson, 91, of Southport

Dolores E. Benson, 91, of Southport, beloved wife of the late Benjamin D. Benson Sr., passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Born in Fairfield, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Cavanaugh, she had been a lifelong Fairfield resident.
A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Dolores worked for many years as a traffic reporter for WICC and WMMM Radios referring to her report as “Classy Lassie’s Traffic,” where she developed a large and enthusiastic following. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who cherished time spent with her family.

Survivors include four beloved children, Timothy D. Benson and his wife Mary of Central Square, NY, James V. Benson and his wife Lou Anne of Milford, Benjamin D. (Bing) Benson, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Southport and Joan E. Benson of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; three sisters, Jean Cushion of West Haven, Barbara Cavanaugh of Westport and Joan Cavanaugh of Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Ethel Cavanaugh of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Donald Cavanaugh and a sister Isabelle Broadhurst.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
