Obituary: Donald B. Buchanan, 64, Of Fairfield

Donald B. Buchanan, age 64, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Patricia (Tierney) Buchanan, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

Born in Schenectady, NY, the son of the late Warren and Francine (LaPointe) Buchanan, he grew up in Darien and had been a Fairfield resident since marrying Pat 33 years ago. Don attended Darien High School, and the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was the owner of Buchanan Home Inspections in Fairfield for the last 25 years.

Don was a gifted artist, concentrating on drawing, painting and illustrations. Don was awarded the Grand Prize at the 32nd Annual Darien Arts Show for his work “The Castle” done in pen & ink. He loved being on the water whether it be boating or scuba diving and loved spending time in North Truro, Cape Cod and Lake George, NY. He also enjoyed skiing. Don delighted in time spent with his family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife Pat, he will be sadly missed by his two beloved daughters, Liz Buchanan, M.D. of Denver, CO and Katie Buchanan of Fairfield; a brother, Jeffrey Buchanan and his wife Jan of Shelton; two sisters, Mary Schneider of Rockland, ME and Jeannie Buchanan of Los Angeles, CA; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 3-6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Interment will be held privately on Friday at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.
