Obituary: Donald Spalding Lake, 101, Of Fairfield
Lake was employed as a machinist since 1938 and later opened his own business, Lake Grinding Co.

Donald Spalding Lake, age 101, beloved husband of 69 years to the late Marian C. Lake, a long-time resident of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. Donald was employed as a machinist since 1938 and later opened his own business, Lake Grinding Co., in 1968 where he worked until he retired. He was a supporter of the UCONN Women’s basketball team and enjoyed watching them play. Golf was a great part of Donald’s life; he was a member of the Patterson Club in Fairfield, and later a member at the Smith Richardson golf course. He was quoted in Golf Digest magazine “In my 80’s, I golf my age.” Donald is survived by his four children, Bob Lake (Rosie) of Fairfield, Nancy Johnson (Lee) of East Hampton, NY, Betty Bock (Joe) of Massachusetts, and Bill Lake (Debbie) of Fairfield; eight grandchildren, Dan, Carol, Eric, Heather, Jake, Bill, Mike, and Kristen; four great-grandchildren Don, Piper, Aspen, and Parker; as well as his sister, Elizabeth Richardson of Wallingford. A funeral service celebrating Donald will be held Friday, July 26, 2019 at 7pm at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 5pm until the time of the service.
