Obituary: Dr. Collin G. Matton, 76, Of Fairfield

A Committal Service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Memorial Garden in Fairfield.

The following obituary is from Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home:

Dr. Collin G. Matton, 76 of Fairfield, died peacefully at home on Monday, May 8, 2023. He was born in Fall River, MA on December 12, 1946, the son of the late Emile and Yvette (Valcourt) Matton. He attended local schools and graduated magna cum laude from Providence College in 1968. He then earned graduate teaching assistantships at Duquesne University (Pittsburgh) and Marquette University (Milwaukee) where he received the Master of Arts degree and the Doctor of Philosophy degree with honors, both in English.

At Marquette, Dr. Matton held various administrative positions in student affairs and undergraduate admissions. With a tepid job market for college teachers, he moved to the New York area and joined the Manufacturers Hanover Corporation. As a business analyst, he earned an MBA from Adelphi University and settled in Fairfield, CT.

He worked for several years at Merrin Financial, a private company specializing in equity trading software and then at Neuberger Berman, a New York-based mutual fund complex later absorbed by Lehman Brothers. During this time, he was a highly respected adjunct professor of Business Policy and Corporate Strategy at the Lubin Graduate School of Business at Pace University, where he taught part time for thirty years.

Dr. Matton self-published a textbook on business policy and contributed several book reviews to the Journal of the Political Economy. He was an avid reader, a cat lover, attended many classical music concerts, enjoyed fine dining and visited California once a year.

He is survived by several close friends and in addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Paul.
