Obituary: Fairfield Public Works Employee Was Devoted Volunteer
In retirement, Patty Lucas was a justice of the peace and secretary for Fairfield's Republican Town Committee.
Patricia “Patty” Ann (Milne) Lucas, age 69, of Fairfield, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on June 16 inside Yale New Health-Bridgeport Hospital. Patty was born in Bridgeport to the late Robert and Margaret Milne. One of four children, Patty was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher, and her sister, Margaret "Cookie" Zengou, and she is survived by her brother, Michael.
Falling in love with her sailor at just 18 years old and marrying the Saturday after her 21st birthday, Patty was at her happiest being with her soulmate, William (Bill) Lucas Jr., originally from Baltimore, Maryland, whom she leaves behind. The proud mom of three boys, she is survived by her children, Bill Lucas and his partner, Tracy Reich, of Los Angeles, California; Matthew and Devon (Spaght) Lucas of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; and Patrick and Renee (Zegarski) Lucas of Shelton, Connecticut.

After retiring from the town of Fairfield Public Works Department, Patty had no shortage in filling her time. As a justice of the peace, she loved the sanctity of marriage and uniting two people together. For years, she held the role of secretary for the Republican Town Committee. Some of her greatest joys came from reading at Barnum School as a member of the School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport. The kids lovingly referred to her as Ms. Patty, and she never needed a reason to dote on all of them with extra goodies. Each fall she spent the day at The Agape Society’s “Day in the Sun,” manning Patty’s Potting Shed, helping the participants grow their own flower. An animal enthusiast, she proudly volunteered for “A Hand for a Paw.” Aside from her volunteer work, Patty loved spending time with her beloved husband visiting estate sales looking for that perfect “piece.”
The Lucas family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers inside the Yale New Haven Health System and specifically Smilow Cancer Hospital. There will be a celebration of Patty’s life when we can all gather safely. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Agape Society “Day in the Sun,” 100 Reef Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
