Obituary: Francis P. Van Slyck, 92

Francis P. Van Slyck, 92, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born in the Bronx to William O. and Mary O'Brien Van Slyck and enjoyed wonderfully close lifelong relationships with his siblings and in-laws: William and Bridget, Mary and Walter Lyons, and Helen and William Ruckel.

After serving in the Navy during WWll, he built his career in banking, retiring as Vice President of Dollar Savings Bank and the Seaman's Bank for Savings. Frank and Catherine T. Langan were a devoted couple during their 46-year marriage and were dedicated to their children through all stages of their lives. Frank faithfully cared for Catherine during her long struggle with cancer.

After her death, Frank lived with his daughter and son-in-law where he enjoyed a rich and happy time with his grandchildren: swimming, filling the house with smells of bacon and "caw-fee" and telling detail rich stories. When his youngest grandchild left for college, Frank moved to Middlebrook Farms in Trumbull.

Special thanks and great appreciation to the staff and residents at Middlebrook for their home cooking, friendship, and countless BINGO calls. Predeceased by his son, Francis Jr, Frank is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and William Giff of Fairfield CT; grandchildren William (and Sarah), Caitlin (and Stephen Viesto), and Conor Giff; and Jane (and John Loh), Francis lll (and Nicole) and John (and Jodi) Van Slyck.

Friends are invited to meet directly at St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. Arrangements in care of The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
