Obituary: Frank Zilinyi, 85, Of Fairfield

The following obituary of Fairfield resident Frank Zilinyi, 85, is from Lesko & Polke Funeral Home:

Frank Zilinyi, age 85 of Fairfield, beloved husband of Joyce Hofmann Zilinyi, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Born in Komjati, Hungary on April 9, 1937, son of the late Ferenc Zilinyi and Margit Baffi Zilinyi, Frank emigrated to the United States in 1957 and had been a Fairfield Town resident since 1966. He had worked as the owner and operator of General Auto Radiator of Bridgeport for many years until his retirement.

Frank had many interests, he enjoyed reading, and dancing, he especially liked the outdoors, whether hiking, fishing or gardening and more so world travel with his wife Joyce, especially his anniversary cruises. He liked swimming and poolside times with his friends. He had been a scoutmaster and loved spending time with his grandchildren teaching them to whittle walking sticks and sometimes "secretly" taking them flying in his plane. He was always ready to help a friend in need.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. In addition to Joyce, his loving wife of 63 years, Frank is survived by his son, Frank Zilinyi and his wife Cheryl of Fairfield, a daughter, Bonnie Baker and her husband Glenn of Oviedo, Florida, grandchildren Frank Raymond, Robert Steven, Matthew David, Kenneth Dale, Christopher John, Katherine Nicole, great-grandchildren Atticus Caleb, Mathilda Karoline, Scarlett Rae, Emilia Josephine, Braiden Rodriguez and Ezra Thomas Baker, a sister Margit Sashalmi of Hungary, his closest friends Louis and Diane Toth as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Vilmos Zilinyi.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 5 in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home in Fairfield Center, and at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield. Burial to followed in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
